Doha’s prominent VIP roundabout and the clock tower have become history on account of the road expansion work being carried out by the Public Works Authority (Ashghal). The clock tower was cut in half using specialised diamond wire sawing machines by Yammine Contracting Company (YCC). “The 65-tonne concrete block (which housed the clock mechanism) was removed in the early hours of Sunday,” YCC general manager Bashar Salebah said in a statement. The company had earlier undertaken similar jobs, including the cutting of the Oryx roundabout near the General Post Office.
