Campaign takes aim at ‘illegal’ businesses

The Department of Commercial Registration and Licenses and the Consumer Protection Department at the Ministry of Economy and Commerce has conducted a number of field inspection campaigns on various commercial outlets within and outside Doha.

The campaigns were conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning and targeted around 150 different shops, with 26 reported violations.

Department director Abdulla bin Ali al-Khatir pointed out that the first campaign stared in June 17 and targeted the commercial outlets at the City Center Doha, resulting in 25 violation reports.

The second campaign started on Sunday and targets fresh meat shops, with one violation reported so far.

He said that violators could be fined up to QR10,000 for activities including opening or practicing a commercial activity without a prior license, having no valid practice license, display of chairs, windows or goods outside the shop, non-existence of a shop placard or using the shop as accommodation.
