Qatargas chief executive officer Khalid bin Khalifa al-Thani has recognised employees’ efforts for helping the company win the Qatarisation Crystal Award for “Supporting Qatarisation” during an awarding ceremony held recently at the Qatargas head office in Doha.
Al-Thani distributed certificates of appreciation to 20 employees led by Human Resources manager Abdulaziz al-Mannai and Learning and Development manager Adnan al-Shaibi.
“The multiple awards we have won in recent years demonstrate Qatargas’ commitment to attracting, developing, motivating, and retaining qualified nationals in our workforce. It also displays our active collaboration with the education sector and other stakeholders to promote quality Qatarisation,” al-Thani said.
He noted that the company’s Qatarisation strategy forms a key element of Qatargas’ Corporate Social Responsibility, which was aligned with the Human Development Pillar of the Qatar National Vision 2030.
“I would like to thank the team of employees, who have contributed greatly towards our continued success in supporting Qatarisation,” he stressed.
The Qatarisation award, which was part of the “Qatarisation Review Meeting of the Energy and Industry Sector,” was the fifth distinction received by Qatargas from the Minister of Energy and Industry.
The previous awards included the following citations: Crystal Award for “Supporting Qatarisation” (2009 – 2010); Crystal Award for “Support for Training and Development” (2010 – 2011); Qatarisation Certificate Award for “Support and Liaison with the Education Sector” (2011 – 2012); and Crystal Award for “Support and Liaison with the Education Sector” (2012 – 2013).
The Qatargas Learning and Development Department has developed various programmes and initiatives to support Qatarisation.
Annual internships are part of the company’s Qatarisation Strategy and commitment to continuously support the education sector. The Internship Programme provides students with practical work experience with professionals from diverse backgrounds and cultures as a prelude to embarking on a lifetime career.
Qatargas recruitment has also initiated an Internship Aftercare Programme to expand the national recruitment pipeline by converting high potential interns to full time employees.
Supporting higher education remains the priority of Qatargas’ Scholarship Programme. It recognises and encourages academically-talented students to join the industry, fosters employee loyalty, initiates promising relationships with students, and identifies potential candidates for employment.
The National Graduate Development Programme supports the transition of university graduates into reaching target positions in the company by providing training and development opportunities.
All national graduates have an Individual Development Plan (IDP), an assigned coach, and regular counselling sessions with the Qatarisation Division.
Qatargas has also made a considerable investment in time and resources in developing its company leaders.
The creation and implementation of a Leadership Development Framework enabled the Leadership Development and Succession Planning Division to design and deliver a suite of programmes that focused on various leadership levels.
The Executive Development and Senior Manager Development Programme targets the top two senior leadership levels in Qatargas.
The Cadre Leadership Development Programme consists of workshops targeted for high-potential middle managers that have been identified through Qatargas talent management succession assessment tools as future senior leaders.
The Annual Qatarisation Awards recognises companies that have consistently exhibited excellence over a calendar year in their performance, commitment, and achieved recognisable levels in Qatarisation.
