HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani with the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz al-Saud at the Royal Palace in Jeddah yesterday.
HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani yesterday met with the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz al-Saud of Saudi Arabia at the Royal Palace in Jeddah.
“During the meeting, they reviewed the fraternal ties between the two countries and ways of strengthening them,” the official Qatar News Agency (QNA) said.
Discussions also dealt with regional and international issues and the latest developments in Palestine, especially the Gaza Strip, the agency said.
The meeting was attended by HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani, and members of the official delegation accompanying HH the Emir.
On the Saudi side, the meeting was attended by Minister of Interior Prince Mohamed bin Nayef bin Abdulaziz al-Saud.
Earlier on arrival at the King Abdulaziz International Airport, the Emir and the accompanying delegation were greeted by Prince Mohamed bin Nayef.
Also present at the airport to greet the Emir were Qatar’s ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Sheikh Abdullah bin Thamer al-Thani.
The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) said that talks between the Emir and the Saudi king focused on the situation in Gaza.
A Doha-based source also told the Reuters news agency that the primary purpose of the Emir’s visit was to find a way to reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza. More than 600 people have been killed in Gaza since Israel launched a military operation there two weeks ago
“Qatar is committed to the Palestinian people and wants to do everything to stop the killing,” said the source. “The Emir’s visit to Saudi comes as part of that.”
On Sunday, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas met the Emir in Doha and in an appeal stressed the unity of the Palestinian people.
