The Central Municipal Council (CMC) said it would support a suggestion to allocate an area for the establishment of an Iranian Souq in Qatar.

CMC chairman Saud al-Hinzab said the suggestion was floated during the council’s visit to Iran where the CMC delegation, led by al-Hinzab, met with Gilan governor general Mohamed Ali Najafi at the Gilan Province headquarters.

During the meeting, which was attended by senior officials of Rasht City, al-Hinzab delivered a comprehensive presentation on the CMC’s function and jurisdiction while Najafi gave a briefing on the importance of Gilan Province and its scenic tourist spots.

Najafi also said Gilan Province has ample portions of land that could be used for cargo and export business with Qatar along with its 30 industrial zones that boast of several petrochemical industries.

The meeting was also highlighted by discussions to further enhance mutual co-operation in municipal fields and services. Al-Hinzab concluded the meeting with the awarding of a token to Najafi.

The CMC delegation to Iran also visited the headquarters of the municipal council of Rasht City to meet city mayor Mohamed Ibrahim Khalili and the Rasht Municipal Council chairman Abbas Saber.

The CMC regularly conducts visits to different municipalities and cities around the world to improve its performance and benefit from their experiences in related fields.
