Ooredoo yesterday gave away prizes to winners of the “Live Like a Football Star” SMS competition.

The competition had challenged Ooredoo customers to test their knowledge on a range of subjects by sending answers to daily questions via SMS over Ooredoo’s summer of sport campaign.

The competition, which was open to Hala and Shahry customers, gave users the chance to win a range of prizes, such as QR3,000 worth of gold daily, a new car weekly and the grand prize of QR500,000.

To win, the entrants answered trivia questions via SMS to score points. Players with the most points scored at the end of the day, week and the competition won a prize.

Throughout the competition, 62 daily prizes worth QR3,000 in gold has been awarded, alongside surprise prizes.

The 10 weekly prize winners got a brand-new BMW 320 with Amjath Meppat Babu crowned the grand prize winner, receiving a cheque for QR500,000.

Due to the popularity of the “Live Like a Football Star” competition, Ooredoo aims to launch a new contest in the near future, according to a statement.

Ooredoo named communications partner of boat show

The Qatar International Boat Show (QIBS) organising committee yesterday announced Ooredoo as the event’s official communications partner.

The second edition of QIBS will be held in November under the auspices of HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani at Mourjan Marinas in Lusail City.

Sheikh Saud bin Nasser al-Thani, CEO, Ooredoo Qatar, said: “Ooredoo is a major supporter of initiatives that excite the ambitions of the whole community and the Qatar International Boat Show is a great example of this. Ooredoo has long worked with maritime authorities and boat owners to provide the latest communication solutions and this event will be a strong showcase for us.”

This latest sponsorship follows similar agreements with high-profile names such as Lusail City, Qatari Diar – the venue for QIBS; Katara Hospitality - the show’s official hospitality partner; Qatar Airways – official carrier; Ulysse Nardin – official time-keeper; Mourjan Marinas, Lusail City – a leading industry provider for marinas and management services; ‘World of Yachts and Boats’ – official magazine; ‘Sur La Terre’ – lifestyle partner; and ‘Yachts XL’ – official videographers.

Faysal Mikati, vice-president of Snow Comms, which is organising QIBS, reiterated that sponsorship enquiries are still coming in with just four weeks to go before the show officially launches. “Naturally, we are absolutely delighted to have the support of Ooredoo,” he said.

QIBS 2014 will be open daily from 3pm to 9.30pm from November 11-15. It will be double the size of the first show, offering an improved layout, a high percentage of international exhibitors representing many of the top names in the maritime industry, with a huge number of repeat exhibitors.

A total of 60 boats will be on display at QIBS 2014.
