State-of-the-art road traffic radar equipment worth between QR40mn and QR50mn have been installed across Qatar’s main expressways in the last couple of years.

Inquiries made at the Milipol found a vast majority of road traffic radars in Qatar have come from Germany since the 1990s.

While some of the equipment have lasted 10-12 years, usually they are changed once in eight years.

The road traffic radars are expected to see further changes in coming years with the installation of Radio Frequency Identification technology (RFID) to apprehend traffic rule violators.

On display at one of the stalls at Milipol is a model of the advanced road radar, the first of which was installed in Ras Laffan. More such radars are expected to be installed along Dukhan Highway and parts of the stretch between Hamad International Airport (HIA) and the Corniche running upto Sheraton.
