Doha: Khalifa bin Mohamed al-Attiyah has been appointed General Manager of Al Shaqab Racing yesterday.
Delighted with the decision, he described the task as a huge responsibility. “I am honoured to be a part of the team in Al Shaqab Racing,” al-Attiyah said “We have exciting plans for Al Shaqab and for their operations internationally and I am looking forward to helping them achieve their aspirations.”
Al Shaqab started in 2011 with Arabian racing and achieved multiple Group 1 wins including the Kahayla Classic two years in a row. It has now evolved into one of the modern superpowers of thoroughbred racing, winning major Group 1 titles such as the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood, the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot, the Locklinge Stakes and the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp twice in 2013 and 2014 with superstar filly, Treve.
