The UAE and Qatar enjoy deep-rooted fraternal relations which are manifested in the increasing exchange of visits by officials and people of the two countries, UAE Ambassador to Qatar Saleh Mohamed bin Nusra al-Ameri has said.
Al-Ameri described the visit by HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani to the UAE on Monday as another milestone in the well-founded relations.
“Relations between the two brotherly countries are marked by the positive and strategic co-operation and co-ordination within the GCC towards many issues in regional and international arenas,” he said.
Keen on furthering their co-operation and safeguarding mutual interests, the two countries signed in 1998 an agreement to establish a joint committee for co-operation in various fields, including energy, industry, financial services, economy, commerce, youth and sports, transport and civil aviation.
The growing economic and commercial co-operation is evident in the Dolphin gas project which was officially commissioned in 2008 and since then, produces 2bn cubic feet of natural gas per day.
The UAE ambassador also underlined the significant growth in trade exchange between Qatar and UAE from US$ 936.2mn in 2005 to 5.5bn in 2014, making Qatar the 5th largest trade partner of the UAE.
“There are 90 Emirati owned companies operating in Qatar, beside 988 Qatari-Emirati joint companies with a total capital of 16bn Qatari Riyal,” al-Ameri said.
