Journalists from various media organisations in Qatar have participated in a training course organised by Thomson Reuters Foundation, in partnership with the United Nations Foundation, in Doha.
The five-day course, “Sustainable Development in a Changing Climate”, concluded yesterday.
A number of practical sessions, discussions and group exercises were held as part of the training course, which was also attended by individuals and representatives of local organisations engaged in environment- and sustainability-related activities.
The course, which was conducted by Naglaa El-Emary, consultant for Thomson Reuters Foundation, and Sami Aboudi, a senior journalist with Thomson Reuters, UAE, focused on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations, among other key issues.
The training course gave the attendees the opportunity to learn about the SDGs and their targets, explore ways to raise awareness about environment-related issues through different media productions and debate issues of global and local relevance in the run-up to this year’s climate summit.
The training programme is being run in 33 countries across the world.
A team of United Nations Foundation officials led by Aaron Sherinian, vice-president, Communications & Public Relations, who was also in Doha, guided the participants. The group discussed issues pertaining to sustainability and climate change with local stakeholders, the course participants and senior media personalities from around the world.
