Ashghal panel receives over 750 pleas for speed humps
The Public Works Authority’s (Ashghal) “Special Committee for Speed Humps” has received 754 requests since it was first formed in March, local Arabic daily Arrayah has reported.Only 331 requests were approved. The special committee’s head, Abdulaziz al-Sada, who is also a consultant for Safety Operations and Traffic Control in the Roads Maintenance Department at Ashghal, said 102 requests were rejected and 223 are pending field inspection to assess if there is a real need for a speed hump. He further pointed out that most of the requests received by the committee involve areas located in Al Rayyan and Muaither. The committee is currently working to identify and inspect all unauthorised humps constructed haphazardly along different roads in the country. The inspection will be carried out by a specialised team, which will also remove all non-standard and non-compliant humps located along main roads or internal streets. Al-Sada also said all unauthorised humps will be removed within three years. He added that one of the committee’s main targets is to remove non-standard humps, which could be a safety hazard to both motorists and their vehicles.
