Emir’s visit to Mexico reflects strong bonds of friendship

QNA/Mexico CityHH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani’s two-day visit to Mexico reflects the strong bonds of friendship between Qatar and Mexico.The Emir, accompanied by a high-level delegation, paid an official visit to Mexico on Tuesday at the invitation of President Enrique Pena Nieto.  The Emir and the Mexican president held official talks dominated by the spirit of friendship between the two countries. The talks covered prospects of co-operation, where both sides expressed satisfaction with the strong relations and stressed the importance of further developing them in all fields. The two sides emphasised the mutual desire to deepen and diversify bilateral economic relations, especially in the field of investment. The official delegations held meetings during which they discussed ways of promoting investment opportunities in the sectors of oil and gas, infrastructure, tourism and mining. They also underlined the importance of air connectivity between the two countries in order to increase bilateral exchanges for the mutual benefit of development and prosperity in both Qatar and Mexico. A number of agreements in the fields of air services, technical co-operation and youth were signed during the visit. Qatar Central Bank and the Bank of Mexico signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Another MoU was signed between Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Mexican Business Council for Foreign Trade, investment and Technology to establish a general framework for co-operation promotes economic relations between the productive sectors in Qatar and Mexico. The two sides announced the start of negotiations on a mutual encouragement and protection of investment agreement aiming to create a climate of investor confidence in both countries.  The talks also covered the latest international and Mideast developments. The two sides discussed the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and stressed the urgent need to reach a solution based on the existence of two states within secure and internationally recognised borders, in accordance with the resolutions of the United Nations, and as the only alternative to achieve lasting peace and security for all peoples and countries in the Middle East. The two sides reaffirmed their rejection of terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, and violence and extremism wherever it comes from. The Emir expressed gratitude and appreciation for the hospitality he received during his stay in Mexico, and praised the Mexican government’s unprecedented interest in the Middle East. The Emir extended an invitation to the President of Mexico Enrique Pena Nieto to visit Qatar in 2016.
