Warda Ibrahim won the first prize of QR5,000 in a competition to choose the best semi-professional cooks of 2015.

Bedaya Centre for Entrepreneurship and Career Development (Bedaya Centre) has held a “business of food” conference in Doha.
Sponsored by Aspire Zone, the event saw the participation of several food business specialists in the country.
Sahar Nasr from the Social Development Center focused on some legal aspects related to the food industry, while Idriss Bouziani from Elevation Burger served up essential tips for identifying and selecting the best franchise opportunities.
This was followed by a discussion on new trends in the field of hospitality by Ghanem al-Sulaiti, and on the importance of branding and corporate identities by Ramzan al-Nuaimi.
Reem al-Suwaidi, general manager of Bedaya Centre, said the food industry was growing rapidly in Qatar. “The forum has been aimed at supporting entrepreneurs to boost their business and give them a chance to comprehend the latest innovations related to the food industry.”
On the sidelines of the forum, a competition was held to choose the best semi-professional cooks of 2015. The competition brought together owners of home-based businesses who focused on amateur culinary art that included preparation of appetisers, local main dishes, international cuisine as well as desserts.
The first prize of QR5,000 was awarded to Warda Ibrahim for her tuna quesadillas with avocado and mango sauce. Warda runs La Fuschia, a catering business for companies and private customers.
“It is a wonderful opportunity to participate in this kind of competition and being judged by a professional jury. It motivates us to give our best,” Warda said.
The jury comprised professionals and social media influencers such as Mohamed Najem, head chef at Aspetar; Abdalla Salameh, manager of the hospitality department at Al Shaya; and Abdulrahman al-Harmouzi, a well-known figure for restaurant assessment and owner of the @where2eatqtr account on Instagram.
Bedaya Centre is a joint initiative of Qatar Development Bank and Silatech.
