Thousands of Asian expatriates joined the associated activities organised by the Ministry of Interior to celebrate Qatar National Day on Friday.
The events took place at the Asian Town in Industrial Area, Al Rayyan Sports Club, Al Wakra Sports Club and Al Khor Barwa Workers Recreations Complex.
The celebrations started at 8 am with the singing of the Qatar National Anthem followed by a parade by school students and expat community teams.
The Indian and Sri Lankan communities joined the associated activities in Asian Town in Industrial Area. A number of Indian and Sri Lankan expatriate associations showcased cultural programmes at the venue.
The students of MES Indian School, Pak Shamaa, Stafford Sri Lankan School, Birla Public School, Doha Modern Indian School and Bright Future School participated in the competitions.
MES Indian School won the overall championship in Asian Town while Doha Modern Indian School came second and Birla Public School third.
Indian expat forum Incas received the best marching contingent award. More than 40000 people including families attended the events.
At Rayyan Sports Club, the Filipino, Indonesian and Malaysian communities participated in the cultural and sports events.
Philippine School Doha, Philippines International School Qatar, Ideal Indian School, Shanti Niketan School and Scholars International School were the participants at the venue.
Philippines International School Qatar won the overall championship while Ideal Indian School and Philippine School Doha came second and third respectively.
The Wakra Sports club hosted the Pakistan and Bangladeshi communities. More than 15000 people enjoyed musical shows performed by famous artists from Pakistan and Bangladesh.
The students of PEC School, Bangladesh School, Bhavans Public School, TNG, DPS MIS and Noble International School showcased their talents at the venue.
Bhavan’s Public School became champions while Bangladesh School and DPS MIS came second and third respectively.
The Nepali community and Al Khor residential communities joined in the activities held in Al Khor Barwa Workers Recreations Complex.
Several sports competitions such as football, cricket, volleyball, basketball, futsal, and tug of war were also held on the sidelines of the events.
