A Bangladeshi expatriate man got a jail sentence of one month and subsequent deportation by a Doha Criminal Court for stealing the mobile phone of his coworker.

Local Arabic daily Arrayah reported yesterday that the Public Prosecution had referred the defendant to the court, accusing him of stealing the mobile phone of his colleague who reported it missing from under his bed.

The records of the telecom provider showed that the defendant used the SIM card of the missing phone to conduct a number of calls. Then, police found the phone with him.

However, the defendant claimed that he found the phone at his company's lounge, asked around if someone had lost a phone, and started to use it when no one claimed.
