The Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) is organising a workshop in collaboration with the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) on the use of the Nice Classification (NCL) and Vienna Classification (VCL).
The workshop, to be held at the ministry’s headquarters from tomorrow until March 31, aims to familiarise participants with international classifications that contribute to and facilitate the process of trademark assessments.
The NCL is an international classification of goods and services, while the VCL is an international classification of the figurative elements of trademarks.
The workshop comes as part of the MEC’s efforts to support and develop the services provided to all parties concerned with respect to the protection of intellectual property rights, besides creating awareness on intellectual property rights protection.
Alison Zuger, an expert from WIPO, will participate in the workshop along with 20 employees from the Department for the Protection of Intellectual Property Rights at the ministry.
The four-day workshop will address the latest issues pertaining to the NCL and VCL. Trademark Department employees will also be trained on the use of the VCL, which will help ease the process of trademark assessment.
