The Primary Health Care Corporation ( PHCC) will open on Tuesday Al Thumama Health Centre, which is expected to ease the rush at Airport and Umm Ghuwalina health centres.
"The new centre, built according to the latest international specifications and quality standards, will provide specialised medical services to the residents of the area," Dr Mariam Abdulmalik, managing director, PHCC, said on Sunday.
Spread over 8,000sqm, Al Thumama Health Centre can accommodate up to 10,000 visitors in the first year itself. The new centre aims to cater to residents of Nuaija, Hilal and Mamoura among others. It will have about 220 staff, including medical and administrative staff.
The centre will provide an integrated and comprehensive health and preventive services which include family medicine, vaccination, communicable diseases and non-communicable diseases, ENT, dental, ophthalmology, dermatology and mental health. There will also be a Medical Commission unit, laboratory and pharmacy services as well as home care services.
The centre is a B category facility, ranked as a community health centre, offering regular services. The additional services available at the centre are physiotherapy, smoking cessation clinic and nutrition clinics among other services.
The health centre will be working under the Clinical Information System whereby all the patient records will be available digitally. There are 45 clinics at the health centre including specialised clinics.
The health facility is expected to accommodate between 20,000 and 30,000 people when fully operational. It aims to serve the residents of the areas of 47, 46, 45, 44, 42, 27, 17, 16.
It has two levels of basement parking which can accommodate a large number of cars. So far 5,035 people have been registered at the new health centre.
