The municipalities of Doha and Ankara signed a twinning agreement aimed at strengthening co-operation between Qatar and Turkey.
HE the Minister of Municipality and Environment Mohamed bin Abdullah al-Rumaihi and Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor, Melih Gokcek, signed the agreement in the Turkish capital.
The agreement envisages exchange of information, expertise and experiences between Doha and Ankara in different areas of services such as development of joint programmes in the fields of construction, sanitation, awareness, recycling, and planting and greening cities, in addition to following up on the latest scientific developments and specialised training programmes.
Qatar’s ambassador to Turkey Salem bin Mubarak al-Shafi attended the signing of the agreement.
Meanwhile, HE the Minister of Municipality and Environment Mohamed bin Abdullah al-Rumaihi said that the twin cities agreement aims at exchange expertise between Doha and Ankara.
The Minister spoke to the press after signing the agreement in the Turkish capital. He said that Doha has turned into an advanced smart city with the latest technological enhancements.
The Minister and the accompanying delegation then toured Ankara and visited Haci Byram and Ankapark.
On Tuesday, Minister al-Rumaihi and Turkey’s Minister of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications Ahmet Arslan and the Chairman of Tekfen Holding Murat Gigin signed a contract for building Al Khor Expressway.
The QR7.6bn project will be carried out by Turkey’s Tekfen Construction. The objective of the project is to build a 34km-long highway incorporating 10 lanes along with 12 viaducts, 8 road junctions, pedestrian and motorcycle lanes will be built.
The project will be completed in 30 months.
The signing ceremony was attended by Qatar’s ambassador to Turkey Salem Mubarak al-Shafi.
