The Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF) has launched a science fellowship programme for Qatari and Qatar-born female PhD students and MSc graduates for which applications will be received until September 30.
The Women in Science (WIS) programme aims to complement the vision of fostering a research culture in Qatar with the motto ‘Building a new generation of talented women researchers in Qatar’. Offered in collaboration with CRDF Global, the programme seeks to fill the gap between the number of successful women graduating from universities and the number of women effectively present and active in the Qatari research workforce.
The fellowship is available in research areas such as Ecology of Infectious Diseases, Environmental Science, Cyber-security and Materials Science in Energy. The research fellowship will be for four months in a US university under one of these four topics.
The fellowship will expose WIS fellows to university research environment under the mentorship of leading female researchers in the US. QNRF and CRDF Global will jointly fund the fellowship, and CRDF Global will coordinate all necessary travel arrangements and accommodation for all selected fellows for the
duration of the fellowship.
The programme will help ensure that fellows continue pursuit of their research at institutions inside Qatar and enable them to share the skills, knowledge and professional connections gained in the US with their colleagues.
The programme also provides working experience with best-in-class scientists, one of whom will be the research mentor as well as with state-of-the-art research equipment wherever necessary.
WIS aims to contribute socially and scientifically to Qatar’s research mission with the potential for worldwide impact and provide networking opportunities and potential support for future employment.
While the primary benefit of this activity is to build human capital, its secondary aim is to support young female researchers to work- upon completion of the fellowship- within Qatar-based research groups in areas of national priority as outlined in the Qatar National Research Strategy.
CRDF Global is a nonprofit organisation that promotes international scientific and technical collaboration through grants, technical resources, and training. CRDF Global’s mission is to promote peace and prosperity through international science collaboration.
