Sri Lankan gets five years jail for illicit drug dealing

A Doha Criminal Court has sentenced a Sri Lankan man to five years in jail for illicit drug dealing and consumption. Local Arabic daily Arrayah reported that the court has fined the defendant QR200,000 and ordered his deportation for the same charges.

The case has its origin with information that he was selling illicit drugs marijuana and hashish. One day the defendant offered to sell an undercover policeman a piece of marijuana for QR400.

Accordingly, the police man was instructed by his supervisors to go on with the process and he agreed to meet the defendant at a place in Wakrah for the delivery process.

At the designated time and place, the defendant was arrested while delivering the informant a small plastic bag containing a piece of marijuana and receiving the sum of money.

The court convicted the man based on the witness of the police officers and the seized illicit drugs found with him when arrested.
