Preparations are under way in Doha to host the largest competition for top winners of Qur’an contests worldwide, organised under the auspices of the Sheikh Jassim Bin Mohamed Bin Thani Holy Qur’an Contest. The “Winner of Winners” contest will take place from November 27 to December 6, coinciding with the celebration of Qatar National Day.Expected to take part in the first session of “Winner of Winners” (the international category of the Sheikh Jassim Bin Mohamed Bin Thani Noble Quran Contest) are 39 contestants from different countries and continents who have been top winners in the most notable Qur’an contests worldwide. The first-place winner will receive QR1mn, the highest ever in the history of Qur’an contests, according to a statement from the organisers.  Since the issuance of a Cabinet Decree to form the organising committee of the Sheikh Jassim Bin Mohamed Bin Thani Qur’an Contest in November 1993, the contest has witnessed “continuous progress as well as a qualitative surge”. The issuance of Cabinet Decree No.24 of 2013 enhanced the contest’s human potential and funds and made it possible to expand it to accommodate new categories and multiple classes of society as well as build an innovative bridge by hosting the first global Qur’an contest that brings the top winners of Qur’an contests worldwide together in Doha, the statement noted. The contest has witnessed, over a span of 22 years, the participation of 30,286 contestants in the memorisation and recitation of the Noble Qur’an, including 18,749 males and 11,537 females. Also, the 22 successive editions of the contest – since 1994 - have hosted 16,410 Qatari citizens, both male and female. Over its previous editions, the contest has given out rewards in excess of QR50mn, the statement adds.
