Close to 300 members and guests attended the 11th annual conference hosted by the Integrated Institute of Electrical Engineers–State of Qatar Chapter (IIEE-SQC) at the City Centre Rotana Hotel. The hosts also held the third and last general membership meeting and technical seminar for the year 2016 and the official election for the 2017 Chapter Officers with several esteemed guests and technical speakers attending the event.
Three guests from the Philippines, namely, the IIEE National Treasurer, Dr Cirilo C Calibjo; IIEE National Secretary, Dr Angel V de Vera, Jr; and IIEE National VP-External Affairs Dr Florigo C Varona were honoured and awarded after their respective technical talks on the Assessing the Progress of ASEAN MRA on Engineering Services, ASEAN Engineer Registry (AER) Application and Registration: Advance Level Engineer, and The APEC Engineer Registry: How to apply and prepare the Engineering Practice Report.
The campaign from the three guest officers from IIEE National stressed on the motivation of the Filipino engineers to be globally competitive by being registered ASEAN, ACPE and APEC engineers.
Special guest from the Philippine Consulate, Vice Consul Kristine F Bautista facilitated the oath-taking ceremony for the 73 new Registered Master Electricians (RME) and 18 new Registered Electrical Engineers (REE). The Special Professional Licensure Board Examinations (SPLBE) was conducted in Doha on September 14, 15, and 16, this year.
Robert U Mabulay, Chapter Adviser and Interim Board of Governor – Middle East Region, told Community, “Compliant to the mission and vision of IIEE, we conduct one of the two major general membership meetings in a year to reach out to members and conduct technical seminar on technical knowhow and provide organisation status, including dissemination of plans and programme for the next year. With this, we seek to keep the Filipino electrical engineer community globally competitive, help them hone their technical knowledge and skills, and stay abreast of the innovations in technology by providing them exposure to technical topics and product exhibits during the event.”
Mabulay further said, “The event also offers an avenue to introduce various contractors/suppliers in the field of electrical engineering locally and in the Gulf. It also presents an opportunity for the members to raise their concerns such as requesting for a seminar topic to be addressed by IIEE-SQC in future events.”
An hour before the event was adjourned, the COMELEC Committee Chairman Chris Cadiente and Nominating Committee Chairman Arnel D Surigao presented before the members and guests the newly elected officers for the 2017 Board of Directors.
Soon after, the elected members took oath as the new officers of IIEE-SQC: President Teofilo F Tongson, Jr.; VP-Internal Marlito G Dela Cruz; VP-External Christopher N Pino; VP-Technical Mario B Morales; Secretary Enrique I Flores; Treasurer Rudilyn S Reyes; Auditor Joseph A Recella; P.R.O. Jimmy Michael Y Bugay; Assistant Secretary Lauren M Olivos; Assistant Treasurer Jo Francis B Ylagan; Assistant Auditor Roderick R Pajes; Business Manager Alex Louis A Alvior; and Executive Sec Pablito W Esmele, Jr.
In between the programme, technical presentations were held and conducted by award-winning technical speakers from different organisations. Among the technical speakers were IECEP Qatar Former Chapter President Adonis Talabo who presented on IP CCTV camera and CCTV network system design and Mitchell Sevilla from Trade House Qatar who discussed about advanced lightning protection system and application. Likewise, the Electric Power Industry Reform Act (RA 9136) of the Philippines was presented and discussed by Marlito G Dela Cruz, who is the Chapter VP for External Affairs.
Three guest sponsors from Al Feroz International Trading, Mercury–Prilux and NAFFCO also completed their respective technical and product presentation. To top it off, towards the end of the programme, a raffle draw was held.
The IIEE-SQC regularly holds at least three general membership meetings and conventions conferences every year. Being an active organisation, IIEE-SQC is conferred as the Hall of Fame Awardee in 2015 for being the Most Outstanding Chapter (Best Foreign Chapter Category and Excellence Award) for three consecutive years in 2012 – 2014.
The successful 11th Annual Conference was led by Overall Activity Chairman, Teofilo F Tongson and Co-Chairman Lauren M Olivos under the auspices of the Chapter President, Edgardo E Estebal, and Mabulay.
