A Doha Court has ordered the Minister of Municipality and Environment in his capacity as the supreme head of the Ministry of Municipality and Environment's (MME) Livestock Department to pay a compensation of QR13mn to a Qatari man for the death of his racing camels as a result of spraying them with toxic insecticide.

Local Arabic daily Arrayah reported that the compensation included QR10mn for the material damages caused by the death of 15 quality breed camels and QR3mn as moral compensation in addition to the expense and charges of litigation.

The court affirmed that camel and livestock owners often submit requests to the MME to spray their animals with insecticides. Accordingly, a specialist technician from the department concerned undertakes the whole process. However, when the employee concerned just deliver the insecticides packages to the animal owners to do the process themselves, the court considers him responsible for any subsequent damage as a representative of the MME.

The court pointed out this is exactly what had happened in this case. The owner filed the case claiming that his high breed racing camels died after he had sprayed them with the insecticides given to him by a MME employee. Also, the results of lab tests indicated that death of the animals was caused by poisoning with diazinon.

The lawyer of the claimant stressed that such camels were award winners in many well-known races and the price of each of them estimated to be worth QR2mn. He also attached all the necessary documents to support his claims.
