Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has participated in the second safety and security forum held at two independent schools, benefiting dozens of parents, teachers and school staff.
QRCS conducted first-aid courses at Abdul-Rahman bin Jassim Preparatory School for Boys (Doha) and Saud bin Abdul-Rahman Model School for Boys (Al Wakrah) as part of the forum, supported by Woqod, Civil Defence, Traffic Department, and the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.
Participants took part in the discussions and practice, which helped in raising awareness on safety and security, and public health, enhancing their first aid skills, and other lifesaving
concepts.
QRCS also briefed the trainees about its principles and activities at the local and international stage under the slogan ‘Saving Lives and Preserving Dignity’.
Instructors demonstrated first aid procedures for injuries that may occur at schools or in the bus. They also highlighted the critical role of each individual in taking care of “the case at hand” until medical assistance arrives.
The sessions also explained the importance of preparedness in dealing with situations that require first aid, in addition to the contents, accessible storage, maintenance, labelling, and expiry of first-aid kit.
Another topic covered by the sessions includes taking the right steps to ensure the quick arrival of ambulance emergency
medical team.
First, calling the emergency number 999, then talking calmly to the call taker. Third is telling the caller’s name and number before describing the case accurately. Fifth is telling in detail the address and double checking the reported information before ending the call.
In the practical part of the sessions, the attendees were trained on how to deal with fainting cases, which include proper positioning of the victim’s body for recovery, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Sessions also focused on specific emergencies such as choking, wounds, burns, nosebleed, fractures, sprains, accidents, eye injuries, and broken teeth. First-aid booklets and fliers were handed out to the group.
