Microsoft is showcasing its latest innovations and e-government solutions at the fourth Qatar ICT Conference and Exhibition (Qitcom), which opened yesterday at the Qatar National Convention Centre.
The three-day event, patronised by HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani, is organised by Qatar’s Ministry of Transport and Communications (MoTC).
Microsoft is demonstrating a range of solutions, covering artificial intelligence, mixed reality, the Internet of Things, machine learning, cyber-security, the cloud and big data, aimed at empowering Qatari organisations – regardless of size or industry – to achieve more through digital transformation.
“Microsoft has a strong relationship with MoTC and we stand firmly behind the ministry and the government of Qatar as they work towards the Qatar National Vision 2030, launched by HH the Father Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani,” said Lana Khalaf, public sector director and acting country manager, Microsoft Qatar.
The company, in conjunction with its strategic partners, crafted nine pilot solutions customised for Qatar and the challenges the nation faces as it builds a smart society.
The solutions bridged the areas of sport, transportation, health, environment and logistics.
The Surface Hub Wall introduced delegates to the power of the enterprise-ready Surface Hub and the versatile Surface Pro 4 and Microsoft HoloLens.
Live demos of ground-breaking solutions, such as Crowd Insights, ChatBot and Social Listening, showed these three devices working in harmony.
Microsoft’s HoloLens partner Trimble operates the HoloLens Corner, where attendees have the opportunity to explore the capabilities of the device and walk through an interactive holographic experience of Qitcom.
HoloLens is a fully self-contained, holographic computer, that allows users to interact with high-definition holograms in the real world, bring ideas to life and make real-time decisions.
The Devices Table showcase Microsoft’s top-of-the-range hardware, such as the Surface Pro 4, with its market-leading security features and superior productivity capabilities.
Also on display are an assortment of powerful innovations in hardware achieved by Microsoft’s OEM partners, such as Dell, Toshiba, Lenovo and HP.
Microsoft has also showcased Sadeem, an e-services solution that the company built for the Qatar government based on Microsoft Dynamics 365 and BI.
Furthering Qatar’s e-Government 2020 strategy, Sadeem will act as a Platform for all government entities aiming to better serve individuals and businesses, and empower them with the right business intelligence tools to monitor their operations.
It will also help enable them to efficiently implement e-services driving true Digital Transformation.
The Cloud Corner at Microsoft’s stand is dedicated to exploring the technology at the heart of the modern ICT world.
Three counters give demonstrations of the power of cloud computing – one for Microsoft’s Azure cloud platform itself, as well as Windows Server and System Centre; one for SQL Server, Power BI, machine-learning and analytics; and one for productivity solutions.
