The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has issued a circular to keep on hold all imported consignments of Belgian-made Lotus biscuit spread jars (380gm) following reports that metal pieces may be present in the item. All such consignments will not be released until samples are tested in the lab to ensure that they are safe for human consumption, the MoPH has said in a statement. The move comes in the wake of European food safety authorities issuing a circular, which says the manufacturer has warned that the product may contain metal pieces. The MoPH has also communicated with the dealer of the product in Qatar, which said the warning pertains to a batch that expires in February 2018 (No 7019109) but has not yet reached the country.
