The Canadian embassy has received the CSR leadership award in recognition of its contributions at a ceremony hosted by Qatar University (QU) to launch the CSR Report, The National Book – Qatar 2016.
The award ceremony was held in the presence of HE Salah bin Ghanim bin Nasser al-Ali, Minister of Culture and Sports, who received the CSR Person of the Year award.
Adrian Norfolk, Canadian ambassador, received the award from Dr Hassan al-Derham, president of QU.
Norfolk highlighted, in an article in the CSR Report 2016, the embassy’s contributions to the community over the past year. “The embassy of Canada plays a significant role in the field of social responsibility and co-operates with the Qatari society in many areas, particularly in the education and health sectors.”
This successful role is part of the bilateral relationship between Canada and Qatar, which enjoys a growing partnership based on commercial, security and people-to-people co-operation between the two countries, according to a press statement.
Canada established its embassy in Qatar in 2012 in order to facilitate the growing activities between the two countries, provide consular services to the growing Canadian population – there are now more than 9,000 Canadians living and working in Qatar, and perform an important role in the further development of bilateral relations between the two countries.
The statement noted that the embassy was proud of the participation of leading Canadian institutions such as College of the North Atlantic and University of Calgary in Qatar’s education sector while Canadian health sector entities such as the Toronto Sick Kids hospital and University Health Network have worked with Hamad and Sidra hospitals.
The embassy also participated in the fifth annual forum for scholarship students and student welfare programme, organised by the Office of Scholarships and Partnerships at QU.
