Strong northerly winds will continue affecting different parts of Qatar on Friday, leading to dusty conditions and low visibility as well as high waves in offshore areas, according to the Met department.
The weather office has also advised motorists, through a tweet, to be particularly cautious as “stronger winds” are expected on Friday.
The country has been experiencing strong winds and dust over the past few days, with the Met department forecasting earlier this week that the windy and dusty conditions were likely to intensify on Thursday and Friday.
For instance, information available on the department’s Twitter page showed that a wind speed of 18-30 knots, with gusts reaching 34 knots, was recorded in Dukhan on Thursday morning. Also, visibility had dropped to 900m on the Abu Samra road.
On Friday, the wind (northwesterly) speed will be 20-30 knots in both inshore and offshore areas, reaching a high of 40 knots in some places at times. The sea level, meanwhile, may rise to 13ft.
Friday will be relatively hot during the day and slight to blowing dust is expected in several places along with clouds. Visibility may drop to 2km or lower in some places occasionally.
Similarly, dusty conditions will prevail - at times - in some offshore areas and it will also be somewhat cloudy, according to the weather report.
The maximum temperature will be 36C in Doha and 35C in Wakrah, Mesaieed and Al Khor on Friday. The minimum, on the other hand, will be 27C in Doha and 25C in Wakrah, Dukhan and other places.
The Met department has reissued, through social media, an advisory prepared in co-ordination with the Ministry of Public Health on how to stay safe during dusty conditions.
