Emergency services responded after receiving a call that someone was seen on the crane shortly after 3 a.m. local time, police and fire spokesmen said.
She was brought down by 8:30 a.m. after a two-and-a-hour rescue that involved the firefighter rappelling down to the woman, who was perched on a pulley attached to the crane by a steel cable, before they descended together.
"He explained what he was there to do and that he would help her, and she reiterated she'd like to come down," said Stephan Powell, district chief with Toronto Fire Services.
It was not immediately clear why the woman decided to climb the crane, which authorities estimated to be about 12 stories high.
Police arrested her for mischief and were expected to charge her once she was released from the hospital, police spokesman Craig Brister said.
