The Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) has announced the start of consultations with members of the tourism sector and the supporting sectors in order to chart a roadmap to launch the next phase of the National Tourism Sector Strategy in September.
Speaking at a press conference held by QTA to reveal the steps that will be taken in order to review its strategy in preparation for launching the next phase, Hassan al-Ibrahim, Chief Tourism Development Sector at the Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA), said the review process will include a wide range of direct meetings with key policy makers and decision-makers in Qatar, hosting two forums bringing together stakeholders across sectors, the first of which will be held on 15 and 16 May 2017 along with conducting a series of public-opinion polls.
The review process comes in implementation of the directives issued by HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Than to conduct a comprehensive review of the national strategy for tourism sector 2030, in partnership with the private sector and stakeholders in the government, al-Ibrahim explained.
In light of the current changes witnessed by the economic reality locally and internationally, the Qatari leadership decided to take new steps that would stimulate the role of the private sector in developing other major sectors of the national economy, he said, noting that the tourism industry in Qatar made significant progress since 2014.
As Qatar continues to develop the tourism sector, QTA must take all these factors into account and respond to any changes required by the new approach in order to build a booming tourism sector, he added.
QTA will launch the updated strategy on 27th of September 2017, which marks the World Tourism Day, he said.
Qatar will host the official World Tourism Day (WTD) 2017 celebrations, which will be held under the theme, ‘Sustainable Tourism — a Tool for Development’ in order to foster awareness among the international community of the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political and economic value.
By September this year, the QTA intends to complete the consultation process and finalise a comprehensive and accurate review of the strategy to ensure that Qatar’s tourism industry is on track to achieve QNV 2030.
During the press conference, al-Ibrahim made a presentation on the steps to be taken by QTA for the next phase of Qatar National Tourism Sector Strategy 2030, in which he stressed the importance of the role being played by the private sector.
