As many as 15 lives were lost in road traffic accidents across Qatar in April, according to figures released by the Ministry of Development Planning & Statistics (MDPS) on Tuesday.
The ministry report also said that compared to March, there was a 2.4% rise in the number of traffic cases registered in April. While there were 497 cases in March, the figure went up to 509 last month.
However, compared to March, there was a 15% fall in the total number of new vehicles registered in April. While 7,823 new vehicles were added to the road in March, the figure fell to 6,599 last month.
Similarly, there was a 4.6% fall in the number of traffic violations in April compared to the previous month. In March, the number of violations was 163,538. However, the figure came down to 155,963 last month.
The report pointed out that though there was an increase in the number of 'red signal' violations in April compared to the previous month, there was a fall in the number of `radar' violations last month. However, the numbers were not mentioned in the MDPS report.
It has also been informed that the aircraft movement through the Hamad International Airport (HIA) witnessed a 3.1% fall in April compared to the previous month. There were 21,157 aircraft movement at the HIA last month, it said.
The report also pointed out that compared to the figures of the corresponding period last year, there was a 27.4% growth in the number of visitors to the country in April.
While there were 231,629 visitors in April 2016, the figure went up to 295,134 this April.
