Stephen Strasburg struck out 13 batters in seven innings, Anthony Rendon was 3-for-3 with a homer, and Bryce Harper was 2-for-4 with two RBIs as the Washington Nationals beat the Chicago Cubs 8-4 at the Major League Baseball on Wednesday. There was more bad news for the Cubs as Kris Bryant left in the fifth inning when he rolled his ankle on the third-base bag after he caught a foul pop nearby. He sustained a moderate right ankle sprain; X-rays were negative. Manager Joe Maddon said Bryant “obviously” would be off his feet for a few days. Strasburg (9-2) gave up four hits and three runs (two earned) with pinpoint control. He walked one while throwing 96 pitches, 70 for strikes. The right-hander had allowed 13 runs in his previous 15 1/3 innings.Angels 3, Dodgers 2Dodgers catcher Yasmani Grandal hit a game-tying home run with two outs in the top of the ninth inning, only to commit a throwing error in the bottom of the ninth to give the Angels a walk-off victory. The Angels’ winning rally started when Dodgers shortstop Chris Taylor, subbing for the injured Corey Seager, booted Ben Revere’s ground ball for an error with one out.Yankees 12, White Sox 3Aaron Judge smashed his 27th home run, rookie Miguel Andujar had four RBIs in his major league debut and Masahiro Tanaka won for the first time since May 8 as New York beat Chicago. Andujar, who was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to replace Matt Holliday (viral infection), went 3-for-4 and had two two-run hits. He drove in two with a two-out single in the first inning and doubled home two in the ninth.Astros 11, Athletics 8George Springer and Jose Altuve reached base four times apiece, and Houston outslugged Oakland. Springer finished 3-for-4 with a walk, two RBIs and three runs, while Altuve went 2-for-3 with two walks and an RBI to spark a 17-hit attack for the Astros. Springer clubbed his 24th home run in the first inning to ignite the outburst.Indians 5, Rangers 3Michael Brantley had two hits and two RBIs, and Trevor Bauer pitched into the seventh inning as Cleveland beat Texas. Bauer (7-6) worked 6 1/3 innings, giving up one run and four hits, with three strikeouts and one walk. The Rangers’ Yu Darvish (6-6) pitched six innings, allowing three runs (two earned) and seven hits, with six strikeouts and one walk.Twins 4, Red Sox 1Max Kepler hit a two-run homer and an RBI single to back a strong outing from Adalberto Mejia in Minnesota’s victory over Boston. Mejia (3-3) tossed 5 2/3 scoreless innings. He has not given up a run in 10 2/3 innings over his past two starts. Miguel Sano also drove in his team-leading 53rd run of the season for Minnesota.Giants 5, Rockies 3Jae-Gyun Hwang’s first major league hit, a solo home run in the sixth inning, proved to be the difference as San Francisco handed Colorado its eighth straight loss. Hwang, promoted from Triple-A Sacramento earlier in the day, belted a 2-0 pitch from Rockies rookie left-hander Kyle Freeland well into the left-field bleachers to snap a 3-3 tie. The 29-year-old, who is a former standout in the Korean professional league, became the 14th Giant since 1919 to hit a home run for his first hit in his major league debut.Cardinals 4, Diamondbacks 3Jedd Gyorko drove in two runs, Adam Wainwright limited Arizona to two runs over 6 1/3 innings, and St. Louis made good use of all six hits to hand Arizona just its third loss in 16 games. The Diamondbacks, the majors’ hottest team since mid-May with 29 wins in 40 games, struggled to get key hits against Wainwright (8-5) and relievers Tyler Lyons, Brett Cecil and Trevor Rosenthal, who finished up in the ninth rather than usual closer Seung Hwan Oh.Royals 8, Tigers 2Salvador Perez and Mike Moustakas hit back-to-back homers during a four-run fourth, and Alex Gordon drove in three runs to power Kansas City past Detroit. Perez also doubled in a run during his three-RBI night. Alcides Escobar had three hits and scored twice for the Royals, while Moustakas, Gordon and Lorenzo Cain contributed two hits apiece.Reds 4, Brewers 3Scooter Gennett hit a two-run homer and Adam Duvall added a solo shot to lift Cincinnati over Milwaukee. The Reds scored the go-ahead run in the eighth when Billy Hamilton walked, stole second and third, then raced home when third baseman Travis Shaw couldn’t gather Duvall’s hard grounder that went for an infield hit.Mets 8, Marlins 0Steven Matz pitched seven scoreless innings and New York belted two more homers in a victory over Miami. Asdrubal Cabrera and Curtis Granderson each hit two-run homers to lead the Mets, who have hit a franchise-record 50 homers this month. The last National League team to hit 50 homers in a month was the 2006 Atlanta Braves.Pirates 6, Rays 2Ivan Nova labored through five innings, his shortest outing of the season, but Pittsburgh managed to hold down Tampa Bay. Nova (8-5), who pitched at least six innings in each of his first 15 starts — the first Pirates pitcher to do so since Eddie Solomon in 1981 — threw 89 pitches. He gave up two runs and seven hits, walking two and striking out one.Blue Jays 4, Orioles 0Marcus Stroman tossed 7 2/3 shutout innings, and Jose Bautista and Justin Smoak bolstered the offense with solo home runs as Toronto snapped Baltimore’s three-game winning streak. Stroman (8-4) avoided a third straight loss, striking out eight while throwing a career-high 116 pitches. The 26-year-old right-hander entered the game 0-2 with an 8.44 ERA in his last three starts against the Orioles.Padres 7, Braves 4Cory Spangenberg and Hunter Renfroe drove in two runs apiece with two-out, extra-base hits off Bartolo Colon as San Diego defeated Atlanta. Manuel Margot had two singles, two stolen bases and three runs for the Padres, who snapped a five-game losing streak in the series. Erick Aybar and Carlos Asuaje each had three hits for San Diego.Phillies 5, Mariners 4Andrew Knapp drove in the go-ahead run with two outs in the top of the ninth inning as Philadelphia completed a two-game sweep of Seattle. Tommy Joseph tied it leading off the ninth with a home run against Mariners closer Edwin Diaz (2-3), who walked Cameron Perkins and then balked him to second. Knapp then lined a single into right field to score Perkins.
