Only a few more days are left before Qatar Museums (QM) launches “one of the most anticipated exhibitions of the year”, Skate Girls of Kabul.
Preparations are under way for the exhibition, which will feature works from award-winning photographer Jessica Fulford-Dobson, QM has said in a statement. It will present her series of striking portraits, which tell the extraordinary story of Afghan girls who took up skateboarding, thanks to Skateistan, an award-winning international nonprofit organisation empowering youth and children through skateboarding and education in Afghanistan, Cambodia and South Africa.
Held under the visionary guidance of QM’s chairperson, HE Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, the exhibition, which was viewed by more than 74,000 visitors during its two-week run at London’s Saatchi Gallery, will bring to life the colourful and free-flowing spirit of these young girls, offering a new perspective on the skateboarding culture.
The exhibition will be held at the QM Gallery Katara from July 20 to October 21.
