The attack took place early on Sunday in Deh Yak district of Ghazni province, Mohammad Arif Noori, a spokesman for Ghazni's governor, told dpa.
Ghazni is among the most insecure provinces in central Afghanistan and has seen widespread Taliban activity.
Noori said Afghan security forces has been conducting operations to clear areas in Andar, Waghaz, Qarabagh And Deh Yak districts with the assistance of the Afghan airforce since 4 pm (1130 GMT) on Saturday.
In a separate incident, at least four people were killed in an explosion in Afghanistan's south-eastern Khost province, a local official said.
Fourteen others were injured in the blast on Sunday afternoon, said Mubarez Zadran, a spokesman for the governor of Khost.
The explosives were placed in the hallway of a underground mobile phone market in Khost city, he said.
A number of those injured are in critical condition. No group has claimed the responsibility for the attack.

Eight members of the Afghan local and national police were killed in Afghanistan's central Ghazni province after Taliban militants attacked their checkpoint, an official said.
