Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS), through its mission in the Philippines, has delivered to the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) 1,000 basic emergency shelter kits under the second phase of the relief programme launched by QRCS for the benefit of victims of Typhoon Haiyan of 2013. Meeting the standards of the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), kits are designed to provide the materials and tools to construct a simple shelter for displaced families, QRCS said in a statement yesterday. Each kit contained the basic tools needed for affected families to repair their damaged houses following the disaster. The kit includes two tarpaulins, six poles for basic framing, and an assortment of fixings and tools. The kit is designed for distribution to relieve immediate, life-saving shelter need for new or secondary displacement, or people on the move, to manage until a better solution can be found. Also, PRC helped select 650 needy families in Santa Fe Municipality, Leyte Province, as beneficiaries of the project. The kits would be kept at PRC’s warehouse for future use.
