The Ministry of Public Health, in collaboration with the World Health Organisation (WHO), is implementing the National Programme for the Prevention and Control of Infection in Qatar.
The programme is based on WHO’s newly published guidelines on the basic components of infection prevention and control programmes at the health facilities level.
In this context, the Ministry of Public Health held several meetings with representatives of healthcare facilities with a view to determining the appropriate mechanisms for implementing the programme.
Huda Amer al-Kathiri, deputy director, healthcare quality and patient safety at the Ministry of Public Health, stressed the importance of the programme, which aims to establish and strengthen a comprehensive national approach to prevention and control of communicable diseases, as well as implementation of the best practices for the prevention and control of communicable diseases in healthcare facilities and the raising of public awareness of infection control.
She explained that the programme comes within the framework of the continuous efforts of the ministry in co-operation with other health sector establishments in working to apply the highest standards of quality and safety of health services in order to ensure access to the best results for each patient individually and the community in general.
Al-Kathiri pointed out that the national anti-infection week, which is being held from October 15 to 19 is an awareness campaign to highlight the importance of infection prevention and infection control practices in healthcare facilities to maintain patient safety and educate workers to prevent the spread of infection.
The campaign also aims to increase awareness among health service users and to inform them of the importance of their role in protecting themselves and protecting others from infection. (QNA)
