The 2017 Qatar LeadershipConference (QLC), organised by THIMUN Qatar and Northwestern Universityin Qatar (NU-Q), will be held from October 19-21, at the Qatar NationalConvention Centre. Now in its sixth year, the annual event aims toprovide individuals with training prior to the annual Model UnitedNations (MUN) conferences, as well as develop student leaders withinschools. This year, nearly 690 students and teachers from around theworld will participate in a range of interactive workshops andconference activities.Lisa Martin, head of THIMUN Qatar, said: “TheQatar Leadership Conference is one of the biggest professionaldevelopment conferences in the Middle East. Every year we have a waitinglist for this event and this year is no different.”Additionally, aspart of this year’s conference, a youth and social media survey will beconducted by Dr Rebecca Nee, a QLC presenter and media professor fromSan Diego State University. The research aims to look at how youngpeople use both social media and mass media to get news and information.The THIMUN Qatar regional office was created as a joint partnershipbetween Qatar Academy, a Qatar Foundation (QF) school, and the THIMUNFoundation. The office, under QF’s Pre-University Education, supportsefforts around the region to develop programmes and events for youngpeople to seek solutions to global challenges through discussion,negotiation, debate, and personal action.
