Kahramaa saves millions from treated water in cooling districts

The use of treated sewage water in six centralised cooling districts in different areas of the country has helped the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corp (Kahramaa) save no less than QR38mn in the third quarter of this year, it was informed at a quarterly review meeting of the senior officials and section heads yesterday.Treated sewage water was used for cooling in approximately 4.7mn cu m.The authorities reported that with the partial opening of Umm Al Houl Station on the southern side of the country, there has been an increase in the daily supply of water in Qatar by nearly 14%.Approximately 6mn gallons of water is supplied from the new facility. Almost 15% of the total supply of pumped water in the country is from Umm Al Houl.It was also announced that works at the locations where major water storage tanks and reservoirs have passed 91mn hours without injury.One of the major achievements of the third quarter was Kahramaa’s construction of a 6-storey car park in the high density Grand Hamad area.The parking, built at a cost of QR155mn, provides space for 275 vehicles. It was pointed out that the response time to attend subscriber complaint reduced by about 10%.Similarly, substantial improvement was noted in the quality of potable water supplied for consumption.Officials said the water meets the top standards stipulated by the World Health Organisation. The improvement in reducing the water leaking in the networks, by almost 4%. Officials also reported considerable improvement in the overall financial performance.They hoped it would contribute to achieving better financial sustainability in the corporation.The meeting, chaired by Kahramaa president and senior engineer Issa bin Hilaal-Kuwari, brought together directors of various departments and other senior officials, including heads of various sections.
