The Bedaya Centre for Entrepreneurship and Career Development (Bedaya
Centre), a joint initiative by Qatar Development Bank and Silatech,
along with a number of startups, has participated in a bazaar organised
by Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q) aimed at raising awareness on breast cancer.
The bazaar was held at the university campus and witnessed the participation of local companies and institutions.
During the event, participating startups donated their sale proceeds to
Qatar Cancer Society to support their efforts in fighting breast cancer
and raising awareness in the community about the disease.
Bedaya Centre’s participation in such events comes within the framework
of its social responsibility aspect and those of other participating
startups, the centre said in a statement.
Reem al-Suwaidi, general manager, Bedaya Centre, said: “Our
participation in this initiative, organised by GU-Q, is to fight breast
cancer. The spontaneous response by local startups and local business
for the bazaar was to offer our support to the efforts of the state
represented by Qatar Cancer Society towards research projects and
clinical trials related to the disease to serve breast cancer patients.
“The sales generated by the startups during the event were very
encouraging. We hope our small effort will support the Society
financially and morally by spreading awareness about breast cancer and
highlight the importance of early detection for women and taking the
necessary precautions in order to maintain a healthy living,” al-Suwaidi
added.
