Foggy conditions are likely to prevail in the country from Thursday until the early hours of Saturday, followed by windy conditions from noon that day until Monday (January 22), the Qatar Met department has said.
The weather office has urged people to be cautious in view of the expected conditions and follow latest updates through its official social media accounts.
In a report on Wednesday, the Met department said weather charts indicate “generally settled weather over the weekend with favourable conditions for misty to foggy conditions in some areas, especially in the southern parts, today and tomorrow - late at night and early in the morning”.
Fog is expected to cover most areas at dawn and early in the morning on Saturday, causing visibility to drop below 1km and even become zero at times in some areas, the report states. The weather is expected to be partly cloudy to cloudy occasionally on Saturday and there is a chance of scattered rain, mostly in offshore areas.
Northwesterly windy conditions are expected to resume on Saturday noon and continue until Monday. The windy conditions are likely to intensify on Sunday, and the Met department has warned of strong winds affecting all areas – both inshore and offshore.
The temperature, meanwhile, will be around their average levels for this time of the year and cold conditions will continue at night.
On Thursday, poor visibility (2km or less) is expected in some places in the early hours of the day. It will be hazy to misty/foggy at first, the report states, followed by mild daytime conditions with some clouds. It will be cold at night.
Hazy to misty conditions have been forecast in some offshore areas at first, and scattered clouds are also likely.
The minimum temperature on Thursday is expected to be 9C in Wakrah and Mesaieed, 10C in Al Khor and 15C in Doha.
On Wednesday, the minimum was 9C in Turayna and 10C in Mesaieed, while in Doha it was 16C.
