QNA/LondonQatarhas participated in a high-level international conference on Somalia,hosted in the British capital London. Qatar’s delegation to the meetingwas headed by Tariq Ali al-Ansari, director of the InternationalTechnical Co-operation Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.Inhis speech at the conference, al-Ansari stressed the political will ofQatar to continue to help the brotherly Somalia through politicalsupport and assistance amounting to about $385mn for the period2011-2018 of which $200mn were pledged by the end of 2017.Hestressed that the Qatari support is being co-ordinated with the Somaligovernment, the UN Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) and the UNspecialised agencies operating in Somalia.He noted that there isco-ordination between the two countries to provide Qatari support toSomalia in the field of security sector reform, referring to theprovision of 30 buses to support the transport sector.He alsostressed the importance of the UN support for the African Union Missionin Somalia (AMISOM), which provides services for peacekeeping,protection of development and donor projects, in response to numerousappeals from the African Union and international resolutions.Al-Ansari called on countries to start investing in Somalia to help the country be self-reliant and support its institutions.Henoted the importance of the commitment of all parties to supporting theunity and territorial integrity of Somalia and respect for itssovereignty in accordance with the resolutions of the UN GeneralAssembly, the Security Council, the Arab League, the African Union andthe support of the federal government.AG holds talks with Swiss counterpartQatar’s Attorney General (AG) Dr Ali bin Fetais al-Marri, who is currently visiting Bern, met with his Swiss counterpart Michael Lauber. During the meeting, they exchanged views on a number of issues of mutual interest and discussed ways of co-operation in the fight against terrorism and its financing, combating religious extremism and co-operation in anti-corruption issues.Both sides agreed to exchange workshop sessions on the criminal systems between the two friendly countries and to find channels for direct communication.The attorney general also met with assistant minister of justice and director of the department of international judicial co-operation at the Swiss ministry of justice. (QNA)NHRC chairman meets Turkish envoyNational Human Rights Committee (NHRC) chairman Dr Ali bin Samikh al-Marri met yesterday the ambassador of Republic of Turkey, Fikret Ozer.During the meeting, they reviewed the work of NHRC and means of enhancing co-operation and exchanging experiences between the two sides on human rights issues.Meanwhile, NHRC honoured yesterday its crews from different services in recognition of their efforts and dedication, in the presence of representatives of the expat communities residing in Qatar, in order to provide a stimulating environment for work and a culture of appreciation in addition to preserving workers’ rights. (QNA)QMC chairman meets Sudanese and Ethiopian officialsQatar Media Corporation (QMC) chairman HE Sheikh Hamad bin Thamer al-Thani has met separately with Sudanese Minister of Information Ahmed Bilal Osman, and Minister and Director of Government Communications Affairs of Ethiopia Negeri Lencho.Discussions during the two meetings dealt with media relations between Qatar and Sudan and Ethiopia.
