Noted Bangladeshi sculptress and 1971 freedom fighter Ferdousi Priyabhashini, pictured, 
passed away in a city hospital yesterday. She was 71.
She was survived by her three sons and two daughters.
Her body will be taken to Central Shaheed Minar tomorrow for people to pay their last tribute. 
The government presented her with the Independence Day Award in 2010. Her biography Nindito Nandan was published in Ekushey Book Fair in 2014.
Ferdousi, who was persecuted during the Liberation War, got the ‘freedom fighter’ recognition in 2016.
President Abdul Hamid expressed profound shock at the death of Ferdousi.
President Hamid said, “The contribution of Ferdousi in the country’s Liberation War will be ever remembered.”
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of noted sculptress and 
freedom fighter
In a condolence message, the prime minister recalled with deep respect the outstanding contributions of Ferdousi to the Liberation War. 
“The nation has lost a valiant freedom fighter in her death,” she said, adding her death is also an irreparable loss to the field of sculpture.
