Quenching their thirst: Qatar Charityu2019s projects were implemented with the aim of providing families with clean water.
Some 7,000 families have benefited from Qatar Charity’s (QC) water projects in the remote areas of the Gaza Strip, Palestine, which were implemented last year. In a statement, Qatar Charity said the projects were implemented with the aim of providing families with clean drinking water, improving their health conditions and easing their economic burden. The director of Qatar Charity’s office in the Gaza Strip, Mohamed Abu Haloub, said the charity’s intervention was prompted by the poor economic condition of the people there and the water crisis in the region. He said Qatar Charity assisted families by supplying thousands of cubic metres of drinking water. He disclosed that charity had recently drilled a well in a remote area of the Gaza Strip at a cost of QR23,785. The well is a permanent source of water for the Umm Ahmed ‘musalla’ on the outskirts of Khan Younis.“For the first time, a large number of Palestinians were able to get drinking water in the remote areas of the Gaza Strip due to Qatar Charity’s water project implemented in the region. This has made a clear difference to the lives of thousands of beneficiaries,” QC said. Many families in the remote parts of the Gaza Strip, including that of Ahmed Majid Hammad, used to purchase water from places located far from their homes. For instance, Hammad used to get water from a place that was more than 2km away from his home. But now, he easily gets drinking water in his remote place on the outskirts of Khan Younis due to Qatar Charity’s water project, the statement pointed out.The beneficiary families thanked Qatar Charity, all the donors and field staff for their humanitarian efforts and contributions in alleviating their suffering. The QC office in the Gaza Strip managed to implement 1,798 projects in 2016 and 2017 in various humanitarian, social and developmental sectors, benefiting more than 3.5mn people.
