Laffah fishing competition to begin on Katara beach today

Katara – the Cultural Village Foundation has announced that Laffah, the second part of the traditional fishing championship, will begin on the Katara beach early this morning. The competition, in which a total of 27 teams will participate, is part of the seventh Senyar Festival being organised by Katara.From the Katara beach, the teams will sail to the Haloul area in wooden boats. The competition will conclude on Saturday. Hadaq, the first part of the traditional fishing championship, was held last week. Meanwhile, a traditional fishing competition for families will begin on the Katara beach at 10am on Saturday. A number of Qatari and expatriate families will take part in the competition, which is introduced for the first time this year, the organising committee has said. The participants will proceed to the Doha Corniche from the Katara beach during the competition, which will continue until 3pm. They will then return to the Katara beach.  The seventh Senyar Festival will conclude with a grand ceremony (Ghaffal) on the Katara beach on Saturday evening, during which winners of the Laffah and family competitions will be announced.The first prize winner in the family competition will get a cash prize of QR10,000, while winners of the second and third positions will get QR8,000 and QR7,000, respectively.
