The Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) has launched the “Fast Well in Ramadan” campaign, an awareness and educational initiative led by a team of family physicians and nutritionists providing information across various governmental institutions and key community sites.
In an effort to increase awareness about the benefits of fasting and how to fast while maintaining a healthy lifestyle, the team will be presenting educational seminars on topics including fasting with diabetes, fasting with kidney failure and health prevention measure during the fasting period.
PHCC will also be holding patient engagement sessions across health centres, inviting patients to take part, creating opportunities for the public to consult family physicians, nutritionist and wellness specialist, providing them with tailored advice.
The key messages of the campaign aim to encourage people to identify the health benefits of fasting, ensure they are paying attention to the food they are consuming during the holy month and encourage them to lead a healthy lifestyle whilst embracing the holy month.
Huda al-Wahidi, executive director, Corporate Communication Department at PHCC, said, “The campaign is a real opportunity to invest in the holy month of Ramadan, as fasting has many benefits. Ramadan is a great time for us to reflect on our lifestyle and therefore try to improve our health"
Al-Wahidi also stressed that such campaigns are a great opportunity to drive forward PHCC’s vision of helping the communities to achieve a healthy lifestyle, more than communication. "We are striving to create change, provide a trigger for people to adopt a healthier lifestyle with guidance from PHCC."
Dr Heba Abu Halawa, head of Health Education at PHCC, said that the PHCC’s campaigns during the holy month of Ramadan are aimed at promoting health through proper nutrition and utilising the holy month to improve dietary habits.
As part of the campaign, PHCC will be issuing health awareness cards containing health literacy around fasting in Ramadan and distributing a Ramadan giveaway bag that includes awareness booklets and helpful information.
