Doha
There was a big fall in the country's population at the end of the last month, apparently owing to a large number of expatriates travelling out on vacation.
While there were 2,731,910 residents in Qatar on May 31, as per the figures released by the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics (MDPS) at the start of June 2018, the figure has come down to 2,580,734 now.
Usually a number of expatriates travel out of the country in the two months between June 15 and August 15 every year.
The Ministry Development Planning & Statistics has said in its latest announcement on population that Qatar has 1,954,419 males and 626,315 females.
The latest figures is the lowest since October last year when there 2,634,234 residents in Qatar.
Similarly, the women's total is also the lowest in 11 months. As per the statistics released last month, there were 697,899 women in Qatar, making it the highest ever total for females in the country's population history.
It is expected that it may take at least three or four months to return to the highest population levels of 2.73 million levels, recorded at the end of May 2018, as residents usually travel out in big batches in July and August.
Records of the previous years show it is usually in November that population returns to the May levels.
