Ministry briefs Qatari students wishing to study in United Kingdom

The Ministry of Education and Higher Education organised an induction meeting for students wishing to study in the United Kingdom for the academic year 2018/2019, in partnership with the British Council and in the presence of officials from the Higher Education Authority, the Scholarship Office, the Ministry’s Guidance Office, the British Council and a number of students and parents.The meeting aimed at introducing students to the British universities and their advantages, giving them the guidance they need to know before leaving, and introducing the academic climate, the cultural and social nature of British society and the cost of living, in addition to other topics of interest.Scholarship and university guidance adviser Saleh al-Muftah shed light on the important conditions of the internal and external scholarships, the conditions of scholarship for learning the language, and the stages of applying for a scholarship from the ministry. He explained that the response to the request is submitted within two weeks.He underlined that the scholarships are competitive, which means according to academic degrees, noting that the student with a higher academic degree will have a better chance.For his part, Director of Scholarship Department at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education Ali al-Buainain said that such annual meetings for Qatari students wishing to travel abroad are held in co-ordination with the British Council because the UK receives the largest percentage of the Qatari students who have scholarships to study abroad.The students and their parents raised many questions which were answered by officials of British Council and Higher Education Authority.On the sidelines of the meeting, an exhibition of British universities was held to introduce new specialisations that are not found in Qatar, such as fire engineering and other specialised and modern disciplines in technology.The list of universities approved for scholarships by Qatar’s Ministry of Education and Higher Education includes more than 135 British universities, in which many Qatari students study at the bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate levels.
