The Eid al-Adha holidays saw a large number of people brave the heat and humidity to spend time outdoors, especially in the evening.
People of all ages and from different walks of life gathered at popular sites such as the Doha Corniche as well as parks and beaches around the country.
The authorities concerned, particularly the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, had taken a host of measures to ensure these outdoor locations were ready to welcome visitors during Eid.
Special cleanliness operations were held in the run-up to the festivities and adequate steps were taken to ensure that these places remained clean throughout the holiday period. People were also urged to do their bit to keep such places clean.
From neighbourhood parks to larger green spaces such as Al Bidda Park and the Museum of Islamic Art Park in Doha and Al Khor Park beyond the city, people wanting to enjoy the holidays closer to nature had a lot to choose from.

Beaches were a major attraction during the holidays.

Al Khor Park was one of the outdoor venues that saw large crowds during Eid. The park offers sprawling green spaces, animal and bird enclosures and a big play area for children in addition to various services and facilities.
“Yes, it is a bit far from Doha – but that is actually a good thing. It’s a nice drive from the city and a great place to spend the day with friends and family,” said an expatriate who visited the park with his family.
“The kids had a great time there. The park is big, well-maintained and comes with facilities such as a cafeteria. The animal and bird enclosures are an added attraction,” said another Doha resident.
Similarly, many people spent quality time on the Doha Corniche. Besides families, a large number of single expatriates – workers as well as executives – could be seen walking along the waterfront in the evening. “The Corniche is easy to access and provides a convenient option for relaxation as well as exercising,” said a young resident.
Another favoured destination was the Al Dosari Zoo and Game Reserve in Sheehaniya.
Beaches, too, drew large crowds. These included Sealine, Khor Al Udeid and other popular beaches in the country.
“Besides taking a dip in the sea, activities such as dune bashing, quad biking and camel riding are big attractions for many people, especially youngsters,” said a resident visiting Sealine.
