The Embassy of Nepal recently celebrated third Constitution Day at Holiday Inn. Constitution Day commemorates the anniversary of the adoption of the 2015 Constitution of Nepal that officially consolidated the country’s transition from a constitutional monarchy to a federal republic. HE Dr Issa Saad al-Jafali-al Nuaimi, Minister of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs, was the chief guest at the event. HE Dr Ahmad Hassan al-Hamadi, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Qatar, and Ibrahim Yousif Abdullah Fakhro, Chief of Protocol were the guest of honour. The event was attended by Nepali businesspersons, social workers, journalists, and Nepali community leaders residing in Doha. The event kicked off with Qatar and Nepali national anthem which was followed by a cake cutting ceremony. The event was inaugurated by Professor Ramesh Prasad Koirala, Ambassador of Nepal, along with the chief guest and guest of honours. Speaking at the event Professor Koirala said that the constitution of Nepal guarantees equality, freedom, dignity and human rights of all Nepali citizens and embraces the core values of multi-ethnic, multi-lingual, multi-religious, multi-cultural and geographically diverse characteristics of the country. It also promotes greater participation and inclusion of all sectors of the society for the promotion of socio-economic and cultural development of Nepal. He said that democratic elections at all three tiers of federal structure have been concluded in 2017 and the government of Nepal now remains strongly centred to achieve sustained peace, progress, social justice, economic development and prosperity. He appreciated the leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani for the extra-ordinary progress along with introduction and implementation of worker friendly policy reforms and initiatives. He also highlighted various sectors of investment opportunities in Nepal and urged to invest in the country for mutual benefits. – Text and photos by Usha Wagle Gautam
