Ras Laffan Power Company (RLPC), the first independent power and water producing firm in Qatar since 2003, has completed 12 years of operation without loss time injury (LTI) for employees and contractors.

The milestone was achieved on August 21 and was celebrated at Ras Laffan Industrial City this month with a programme that was attended by all board of directors, employees, and contractors.During the event, Qatar Electricity and Water Corporation (QEWC) managing director Fahad al-Mohannadi said every worker “is important for his family and hence, all measures should be taken to ensure their safety.” He also lauded RLPC for the milestone and wished the company many other achievements in the future.RLPC CEO Mubarak al-Nasr said, “Twelve years back, it would have looked like a distant dream but today it is a sense of accomplishment and a matter of pride for all of us. The coming years will continue to bring new challenges from, yet, unidentified hazards and unique situations. “Many organisations fail to carry through the same awareness level of safety and become victims of complacency, and this is an area where we need to strengthen ourselves.”On behalf of RLPC, al-Nasr received a gold medal from the Royal Society for Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) during a ceremony held on September 13 in Glasgow, the UK. This is the eighth consecutive time that RLPC has received the award.Through the RoSPA awards scheme, which is open to businesses and organisations of all types and sizes from across the UK and overseas, judges consider entrants’ overarching occupational health and safety management systems, including practices such as leadership and workforce involvement.
